INEOS invests in Hosokawa Alpine MDO technology to design recyclable flexible packaging film
INEOS Olefins & Polymers Europe, has invested in a highly versatile and flexible Alpine line with inline MDO. The collaboration between the global resin supplier and Hosokawa-Alpine, will enable the machine to work with converters, brands and retailers. The goal is to develop a simpler, more sustainable and recyclable flexible plastic film for packaging.
How is it achievable?
Using blown line technology with Machine Direction Orientation (MDO), INEOS and partners will work towards designing, and producing a polyethylene and polypropylene-based flexible packaging film. The goal is to create a formula using fewer polymers, which will increase the recyclability of the product. The more polymers in one product – the harder it is to recycle. The flexibility of the Hosokawa Alpine MDOs and improved resins can help reduce around one million tones of waste!
This investment is further evidence of our commitment to taking action across the value chain to create a more sustainable future. Flexible packaging films keep our food fresh and safe to eat, but we recognize and share people’s concerns about plastic waste.

This world-leading technology will in the future be available to work alongside partners on new generations of resins specially engineered for their flexible packaging.
