Ein wesentlicher Schritt im Kunststoffrecycling ist das Mahlen verschiedener Kunststoffprodukte. Schneidmühlen können Kunststoffflaschen, Kisten, Fässer, Folien usw. schnell in kleine, gleichmäßige Stücke zerkleinern, die als Regranulate oder „Flakes“ bezeichnet werden. In einigen Fällen ist dies der einzige Schritt, der erforderlich ist, bevor das Material für die Herstellung neuer Kunststoffprodukte wiederverwendet werden kann.
